XYZPrinting Unveils Sub-$2000 3D Food Printer

XYZ Printing’s newest sub-$2,000 printer, introduced at CES in Las Vegas, prints dough-based foods that, once cooked, can turn into pastries, cookies and more.
Roughly the size of an all-in-one printer, the XYZPrinting 3D food printer includes a 5-inch touch screen and prints out cookable food in layers ranging from .8 to 6.4 mm, with a maximum print size of 7.8 in. by 5.9 in. by 5.9 in. Company representatives said that the printer can output one cookable object at a time, then you can bake a batch. The designs for these 3D printed confections will sit on XYZPrinting’s cloud-based service and can be downloaded directly to the printer.
The company notes that submitted food designs will be reviewed by its “foodie guru” before they add them to the database. XYZPrinting also promises that the system will be easy to use, offering one-touch functionality.
The 3D food printer connects via USB to Windows 7 and 8 and Mac OSX systems; it should go on sale sometime later this year.
