A Chance To Comment On Proposed Food Safety Changes

From Blackburn News

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is looking for feedback on its new way to approach food safety. The agency has posted some of the documentation on its website, including its paper on enhancing risk analysis.

The paper talks about moving to an outcome-based system more focused on prevention while also leveraging inspection resources for maximum value. This includes moving away from its current system of using different approaches to oversight for each commodity.

It would be replaced by a single, risk-based approach applied consistently across all commodities. The CFIA is proposing providing a base-level of oversight for all regulated parties, then layering on top of that depending on the risks that need to be managed.

The agency is accepting comments on the proposal until October 31st of this year. Here’s a link to the submissions page – including a link to the analysis document.
