McDonald’s puts kale salads on the menu in Canada

McDonald’s is scrambling to find ways to get grown ups to go back to loving eating at their fast food restaurants, and their next big move is to put a trio of kale salads on their menu in Canada. The Associated Press reports that Canadian McDonald’s restaurants will soon find the trendy supergreen alongside the chain’s well-known staples like the Big Mac and McNuggets.
Mark Kalinowski, an analyst at Janney Capital Markets, said in a report on Wednesday, citing industry sources, that kale will make an appearance in a trio of salads at Canadian McDonald’s restaurants — Caesar, Greek and harvest garden. The three salads made their Canadian debut on Thursday, May 7.
The ubiquitous burger chain has been struggling recently to maintain sales and, in particular, attract millennials. “Increasingly, younger diners are seeking out fresher, healthier food and chains that offer customizable menu options for little more than the price of a combo meal,” the Wall Street Journal reported last year.
And yet, it was just a couple of months ago McDonald’s ran a Big Mac commercial that teased foodies for their affinity for Greek yogurt, quinoa, and, yep, kale.
