Canadian Government Entices Food Producers
According to Food Production Daily, Manitoba’s government is offering “financial and educational” encouragement to boost the province’s success in the food industry. As demand for more localized food grows, it’s important for the well-being of the province to stay on top of the trend.
The report states that “Manitoba is home to more than 250 food processing companies, making it the province’s most significant manufacturing sector. Food production comprises 25% of all of its manufacturing shipments each year, approximately $4bn worth.”
To get started, the province plans on creating a “working group” – consisting of farmers, food processors, marketing groups, and industry experts – to discuss and act on ways in which the industry can grow. Elements of this growth will include “financial assistance, regulatory guidance, and training,” in the hopes that new steps will lead to increased success in the future.
